Mick Tyers is an life-long car enthusiast and has held a full UK car driving licence since 1976.
He has held a full UK motorcycle licence since 1992.
He is a very experienced driver, becoming a driving instructor at The British School of
Motoring in 1982. The same year he passed his Institute of Advanced Motorists Test
& the RoSPA Advanced Driving Test in January 1983.
He left BSM to set up his own driving school in 1986, teaching at novice & advanced level.
He qualified as a Diamond Advanced Driving Instructor in 1991, one of only two instructors in the area to hold the qualification.
In the mid eighties he raced Formula Ford 1600, progressing after two years to Formula Ford 2000, winning an event at Mallory Park circuit.
His prize for the win was a coaching session with Sir Jackie Stewart!
During this time he was sub-contracted for tuition at The Peter Gethin School based at the Goodwood Circuit & ATC Driver Training at North Weald.
It was at North Weald where he completed an instructor training course on ‘Skid Car.’
Due to his experience, he was invited to take the Metropolitan Police Civilian Driving Test
at The Police Driving School in Hendon, London.
This test is by invitation only and was offered as they had a vacancy for an
instructor, although he passed the test, he was not offered the job as he lived too far away.
Mick has been fortunate to own several performance cars himself,
Ford Sierra XR 4x4, Porsche 924 Turbo, Porsche 944, Porsche 911 Carrera
and most recently a Lancia Delta integrale Evo.
For daily use he has owned several Mercedes & BMW, he currently drives a Jaguar.
Mick gave up race driving in 1989 and instructing in 1992.
He used to run his own business, HF Motorsport, where the majority of his work was contracted out to a local company, delivering and collecting cars throughout England.
The vehicles were usually prestige or performance models, like Audi, BMW & Mercedes.
He currently works for an auction house in their automotive division.
In addition to his experience in both driving and instructional techniques,
Mick has an extensive reference source of driving technique publications
ranging from 1975 to the present day.
